Canastota Fire Department

The Canastota Fire Department is made up of three(3) individual companies. From these three companies the 90 member roster of the department is made. There are two hose companies and one ladder company, each one holds their own meetings during the month but when the horn starts blowing we become one to answer the call. The three companies are Forbes Hose Co. #1, Delano Hose Co.#2, and the Patten Hook and Ladder Co.#3. While it has always been Forbes and Delano the Patten Hook and Ladder was formerly known as the Totten Hook and Ladder Co.

Each year in April the departments three companies have their annual elections. On that night they all appoint members to lead the individual companies, and elect a Chief, Captain, and 2 Lieutenants. Every two years each company takes a turn at being the lead company in which the Chief from that company becomes the lead Chief of the Department. The companies also elect two fire council members who along with the three Chiefs make up the governing body of the Canastota Fire Department.
